Sustainable Finance, the role of capital markets

Today, there is growing, urgent importance being place on projects that contribute to sustainable development and mitigating the risks posed by climate change. However, with this comes the challenge of funding these projects. This is where international capital markets play a crucial role in securing this funding through the world of sustainable finance. In recent years, sustainable finance has gained the support of a growing number of investors and a whole series of new roles focused on financing (or debt refinancing) activities that respect people and the environment. In its essence, sustainable finance is all about uniting international capital markets to secure a low-carbon and more inclusive world. The objective of this seminar is to share the role of international capital markets in the development of sustainable finance, identifying the opportunities and internal and external challenges that need to be overcome so that this sector can expand both throughout the world and in Brazil specifically.

Speakers
Cesar Sanches
Head of Sustainability at B3, where he leads a series of projects and initiatives to promote ESG best practices, including the development of innovative indexes and sustainable financial products, as well as educational actions. PhD in engineering from the University of São Paulo, holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Aberdeen (Scotland) and completed the Business Sustainability Management course at the University of Cambridge Sustainability Leadership Institute (CISL). He has worked on infrastructure projects in several countries.
Juan Antonio Ketterer
Chief of the Connectivity, Markets and Finance Division of the Inter-American Development Bank. Has experience in various areas such as financial engineering, capital markets, derivative securities and digital finance (fintech). He held management positions in consulting, financing and negotiation companies. Ph.D. in Financial Economics from the University of Minnesota, becoming professor of finance at the Tepper Business School of Carnegie Mellon University and at the Kellogg Graduate School of Management of Northwestern University.
Paula Redondo Perreira
Head of Regulatory Affairs at the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE). Paula previously served as Legal Advisor to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM) and was Chief of Staff of the Secretary of State for European Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal. She was also a lawyer for the Spanish law firm Uría Menéndez and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett representing customers from Latin America. Paula received her Law Degree from Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, her LL.M. in International Business and Economic Law from Georgetown University and her Master in European Affairs from Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
